HFCS was added to the food supply in 1984.
In the mid 1980’s High Fructose Corn Syrup was added to the food supply as a preservative and sweetener. HFCS when consumed, makes it nearly impossible to burn fat for energy. HFCS is responsible for both obesity and diabetic epidemics. From 1900 to 1984 obesity in north America was approximately 23% of the population. HFCS was approved as a sweetener and preservative in 1984 because it is 20-70% cheaper than sugar. Resulting in sky-rocketing obesity. Within 5 years the obesity rate doubled. Today more than 70% of the population is overweight or has a body fat greater than 30%, the definition of obesity.
