Defending the underdog and the misinformed
As a kid, I always looked for ways to help the “underdog”. Now as an adult I try to defend people from the food company lies and the constant misinformation regarding nutrition.
A Defining Moment
As a young naive nutrition professor, I couldn’t help but be curious why the COLLEGE nutrition FACULTY were so OVERWEIGHT. They were following what the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Food Pyramid guidelines instructed to eat. And of course, the university textbooks were promoting the same content. Yet my bodybuilding friends at the gym were not following the USDA guidelines that were promoting eating, grains and milk. They were lean by ignoring the USDA Food Pyramid guidelines.
I started early in life linking pleasure in helping others improve their health and fitness. My God-given sence of purpose deep in my heart is to help other’s with their health. It’s something I have genuinely enjoyed my entire life. Especially when I would receive feedback that my coaching and nutrition advice worked for them. The DRIVE to help others to be their best has lead me to a lifelong pursuit of health education. And it’s this passion that gets me up early and keeps me up late. People really don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care.
Without question God’s “greatest miracle on earth” is the human body. It is the only thing on earth that becomes stronger with use. All other things become weaker with use. I challenge you to think of anything else that becomes stronger with use. Our bodies and mind are the one and only exception that with use will get stronger at ANY AGE. Now back to today’s story. At age 14 I looked around and started to see friends growing bigger, stronger, and faster. Naturally I wanted to catch up with them. And thanks to my mom and a Sears department store, I ended up with my very own set of barbells and dumbbells and my bedroom became my first gym… Big day!

“Age 14, 112 pounds, (50 kilos)
Age 18, 180 pounds, (82 kilos)
Hey, lifting weights worked!”
I went from being one of the weakest kids to one of the strongest. My friends noticed and began asking for tips. THAT FELT GOOD. However, I discovered that EXERCISE most importantly must first be LINKED WITH NUTRITION for results to really happen. From then on my life has been learning, then sharing, exercise and nutrition information that REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE in other lives.
Upon graduation I was LIVING MY DREAM. I became a professor in the College of Education at the University of Cincinnati. However, after a few years became extremely discouraged by the bureaucracy and hidden agenda of University policies and politics. This is when and where I first discovered the deep-seeded corruption within the nutrition and wellness industries.
